Spray
field at Westport, Ontario
Viewpoint of the
Municipal Council of Westport (February 15, 2002):
"The village of Westport has
employed the innovative freeze-crystallization process for sewage effluent
treatment for the past five and a half seasons. This technology was
employed by the Village because the high level of treatment quality
offered, tertiary plus, was necessary because of the environmentally
sensitive status of the Upper Rideau Lake at the time. The Upper Rideau
Lake was the effluent receiving body of water under the prior sewage
treatment system.
After five and
a half years of winter operation, the system has operated according to
design specification, has eliminated the requirement for a seasonal
effluent discharge into Rideau Lake, and has no surface water or
groundwater B-7 impacts on adjacent properties according to recent
technical studies. The Municipal Council endorses this technology as an
environmentally responsible and cost effective solution for small to mid
size systems operating under environmentally sensitive conditions."
Scott Bryce,
Clerk/Treasurer.
