Comments:
In the following pages, find
680
signatures petitioning council to reject the motion from the
Environmental Services Standing Committee’s to approve the staff
recommendation to construct a forcemain from Munster, to and
through Richmond. We strongly protest this solution, given that
proven, viable options are available in the form of on-site
treatment alternatives. We see no reason to pursue a solution
that places at risk Richmond’s water supply, both in availability
and the probability of catastrophic contamination that would
result from the inevitable rupture of the pressurized forcemain
pipeline into the aquifer that services countless privately owned
shallow wells. Further, we protest the imposition of a development
cap equal to the more than 400 homes in Munster that would be
connected to the Richmond system. Furthermore, residents of
Richmond and rural areas have not been afforded either information
or voice in this matter, which affects us so vitally.
It is to be
noted that while limited time available rendered it impossible to
approach every adult resident in Richmond and the rural area
between Richmond and Munster Hamlet, of the people approached,
less than 2% declined to sign.
