WARNING: MUNSTER SEWAGE WILL POISON YOUR DRINKING WATER

Do you want (to continue to drink clean water? That may change if the Regional Government (RMOC) has its way. They plan to install a pipeline from Munster through Richmond. This pipe will carry sewage from Munster! This sewage will be pressurized. These pressurized pipes break continually. When this happens your ware well will be poisoned with sewage, especially if it is a shallow well. Many wells in Richmond are shallow. The act of digging a trench for the pipeline can contaminate your well with surface water.

Do you want to drive down your street? That may become difficult. Your street can be torn up for weeks while a pipe is installed. Munster streets won't be torn up but yours will! The route through Richmond has not been finalized yet. It could pass by your front door.

Do you want your taxes to increase? They probably will if a sewage pipe goes through! This pipeline will cost approximately 15 million dollars.

Do you care about the environment? RMOC has decided to send the sewage pipe right through the Richmond Fen - a provincially significant wetland.' When the pipe breaks, and it will, it will contaminate the largest fen in Eastern Ontario.

There are much cheaper/environmentally friendlier ways to deal with Munster's sewage. These treat the sewage at the Munster lagoon site. Onsite treatment is many times cheaper to install, operate and maintain than a pipeline to Richmond. As well, onsite treatment returns clean water to the Jock River Watershed. This water will help prevent the Jock River from drying up in the hot summer months,

Members of the Friend of the Jock River (FOJR) are fighting to have this pipeline stopped. The FOJR is a non-profit volunteer organization working to improve the health of the Jock River. FQJR and others have taken the RMOC before the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) hearing. We are trying to show the OMB that the consulting report recommending a sewage pipe is erroneous and full of inaccuracies. The report has been “fixed”. We have solid evidence to prove our case.

Want to have your say in this matter? On Monday, April 3rd there will be a public meeting at 7 p.m. at Goulbourn Township Headquarters (see map). Come out and tell the OMB chairman what you think about this proposed pipe. He will listen to you. You CAN make a difference - exercise your democratic right before it is too late,

Don't allow the RMOC to risk your health, raise your taxes, and endanger the environment.
