King City open to local solutions

Time to protect natural treasures

Editorial, Oct. 22.

In your editorial on the municipal election in King Township, you state incorrectly that opponents of the Big Pipe are for preserving outdated septic systems. We are prepared to compromise and allow a local sewage treatment plant into King City to allow for some development, some intensification of the downtown core and for expansion of local businesses.

King's present council has requested and received expressions of interest from three manufacturers of sewage treatment plants that could be built for King City. York Region, with the encouragement of our current mayor, refuses to consider these plants but insists on the Big Pipe. Why? Its plans are developer driven.

King City, on the environmentally sensitive Oak Ridges Moraine, deserves real protection.
